Yep, agree with you re cutdowns. as a matter of fact I didn't like going commando at all in jeans. Always worried about the sharp zip I guess.
Did enjoy sports shorts though, and now trackies, but unfortunately these weren't really invented in my young days, if they did exist you certainly didn't wear then outside of a sports setting.
i wish we had had the luxury of today's clothing 40 years ago. The modern materials are so much lighter, easier to dry, and more resilient than the thick old stuff we had to wear. Guess I might not have got into so much trouble if I had had clothes that would dry and look OK before I got home.
